PRINCIPLES THAT HELP SHAPE OUR COMMUNITY
Attitude of Learning We ask the community at City Church to keep their hearts and minds open to grasping new and better understandings about God and our world. We seek to learn from Christ and change daily. It is also our hope to better understand each other, and to work hard to see from each other’s perspective. We can endeavor to fearlessly learn about God as we rest on the confidence that He will love us all the way through our personal and communal journeys. We believe His Spirit will be faithful to guide us in truth and wisdom.
Bible Focus God inspired the various Bible authors to record God’s message over a 1500 year span. We look to the Bible as one of the most important ways through which we get to know God and learn of his heart for our lives and our purpose on earth. As we look at all that the Bible is and all that it has to tell of Jesus’ compassion for people, we are inspired to join in His mission. You will continually see our large group gatherings, small group meetings, and various events maintaining a central focus on the Bible.
Service As we watch the life of Jesus we are constantly riveted by his sacrificial love and humble servant’s heart. Jesus, who showed us that faith is action, was filled with compassion every single day for the hurting and the healthy, the marginalized and the accepted, and the poor and wealthy alike. We have a love for this lifestyle and we are relentless in modeling our personal lives after His. Whether it’s a building project for the city, feeding the needy, offering a shoulder to lean on, or facilitating a book study for hungry minds, we seek to be creative in our service for each other.
Missional Mindset We believe the story of Jesus is God’s epic mission to redeem humanity. Inspired by this framing truth, we are delighted to view every single avenue of our lives with great intention. Whether in the workplace, education centers, recreational activities, or at home with the check book, we endeavor to use each of life’s opportunities to join God in His mission of redemption. We view a life of faith as one without compartments for church, religion and spirituality…every decision we make is part of our faith mission.
OUR MISSIONAL PRAYER
“Almighty God, fill us with your Spirit, give us your heart, and guide us into truth daily. Help us to be willing to trust you as we join with you in your mission for this world. Give us a burning fire to live with purpose and thoughtfulness in all we do; be it work, play, rest, study, or buying and selling. May we not act out of tradition alone, but intentionally examine every issue and embrace your cause with our whole being. This is our prayer, Amen” |
