Financial Giving at City Church
Giving cheerfully and sacrificially of our finances is part of our worship to Jesus. A believer’s ultimate financial goal is not to accumulate personal wealth or possessions, but to use God's resources well and be life a changing example to our community. We strive to remain Christ-centered in our finances by remembering to give first to God (2 Corinthians 9:7; Proverbs 3:9).
How much should I give? People committed to City Church are called to give. We do not ask people to give an obligatory percentage of their income. However, City Church folks are challenged to give generously and sacrificially to the work of the church. Christ is our example of a life lived and sacrificed for others.
Many believers commit to giving God the first 10% of their income. This amount is useful to help folks budget in giving to God of their finances. It is also a sensible minimum amount to build giving habits with. The 10% amount is inspired from the tax/tithes of the Jews in the Old Testament of the Bible. For more information on “the tithe”, see the related links below.
Where did the idea of a Christian tithe come from? Where and how can I give?
